Teatro victoria madrid

We saw the production of Carmen G. Bizet in Flamemco/Ballet style at this theatre. This was a fantastic performance with an extremely talented cast and I recommend it to all. It lasted 90 minutes with no break.

I was in the first amphitheater, but in the stalls you can usually see it well from anywhere, I’m sure you’ll have to ask for an elevator to make it a little higher, but I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

Taking charge of such an emblematic theater is “a huge source of responsibility”. “I’m mortgaged, but very happy. It’s very hard to run a theater, but it’s a worthwhile adventure. If you have to ruin yourself doing something, it’s better to do this than to buy a private jet”.

The programming, he says, will be varied and will have “titles” and “actors.” “I don’t give a damn about genre. I ask that they be well acted and well staged so that there’s magic every time the curtain goes up.”

The project of the architect José Espelius, has a capacity in the room for more than six hundred spectators. Of great architectural value, it is worth noting the unique element of its spectacular skylight over the stalls, which in its early years was opened for ventilation of the room and enjoyment of the spectators who came to the theater.

When the Second Republic was declared, it changed its name to “Victoria”. After the Spanish Civil War, it returned to its original name, Reina Victoria, which this year celebrates its first centenary.

During the post-war theater, the evasive, humorous and sentimental comedy was promoted, highlighting on stage the traditional values of the political moment that was being lived.
