Following his recent appointment as a UN Climate Change Messenger, Leonardo DiCaprio embarks on one of those life-changing journeys.  DiCaprio will search for the answer to a haunting question: can anything be done before it’s too late?

The documentary, “Before the Flood,” produced by National Geographic, will visit remote areas of Greenland, the hot jungles of Sumatra and the halls of the Vatican to examine the devastating effects of climate change.

There are still many climate change deniers.  Among them are world leaders who deny what 99% of the world’s scientists claim. Dicaprio will take advantage of his privileged position to meet with some of these leaders and delve into the real causes of the crisis.

The use of fossil fuels is one of the main causes of global warming. The ozone layer is deteriorating more and more and with it the greenhouse effect and the melting of the poles is already a reality. The sea level will rise and with it flooding.

This documentary serves to raise the alarm about the consumer society in which we live and some habits that have completely transformed the planet. It also shows us how we could prevent the disappearance of endangered species, ecosystems and indigenous communities around the world.

The challenge now is to develop a global transition before it is too late. For this, education and access to information are the basis, knowledge and understanding lead to action, however, scientific and political currents that deny the existence of the problem hinder the process.

To this end, “Before the Flood” adopts a typically Hollywood emotional approach, very focused on the actor’s own figure who, linking with his own personal history and his progressive involvement in environmental issues, acts as a witness and becomes the eyes of the viewer in order to make him aware. Because consciousness for DiCaprio, as for any of us, is the prelude to action. And where science has failed, perhaps the sentimental appeal works.
