El objetivo de este trabajo es abordar la introducción, sensu Conry, de la genética en México. En el siglo XIX la comunidad médica fue uno de los grupos más destacados que desarrolló el campo de la “herencia”, aunque nunca utilizó los principios genéticos en su campo. Trataremos de mostrar que uno de los principales acontecimientos en la historia de la genética en México tiene que ver con la introducción de técnicas, más que de teorías. La investigación en genética se inició a través de una de las aplicaciones más prácticas, la genética experimental aplicada al mejoramiento de especies con intereses económicos. El objetivo de este artículo es estudiar la introducción, sensu Conry, de la genética en México. Para ello, hablaremos de la comunidad médica del XIX, la que desarrolló los principios fundamentales de la “herencia”, sin aplicar los principios elementales de la genética. Trataremos de mostrar cómo los principios genéticos fueron introducidos vía las técnicas y no vía la teoría. La investigación genética en México comenzó a través de sus aspectos más prácticos, la genética experimental aplicada al mejoramiento de las especies con intereses económicos.
