El Cine Capitol abrió sus puertas en octubre de 1933, proyectando películas de la Paramount. El cine está situado en la planta baja de un gran edificio de 15 plantas de estilo Art Decó (el premiado Edificio Carrión), que también contiene el Hotel Capitol, apartamentos, oficinas y comercios. De acuerdo con un plan de 1926, los arquitectos Luis Martínez Feduchi y Vicente Eced fueron contratados para diseñar el edificio en 1927. El edificio se construyó entre 1930 y 1933. El edificio Carrión combina varios estilos arquitectónicos del siglo XX, como el expresionista y el art déco. Siguiendo la temática Art Decó, el edificio tiene la forma de la proa de un transatlántico de lujo. Todo fue diseñado especialmente, desde los pomos de las puertas hasta el mobiliario, y fue el primer edificio de Madrid en tener aire acondicionado en todo el edificio.
El exterior del Cine Capitol está brillantemente iluminado con neón, que luce especialmente por la noche. El auditorio tiene 30 metros de altura y, con 32 metros de ancho, se construyó con la mayor luz del mundo en aquella época. La acústica es excelente, ya que, salvo el techo y el escenario, el interior del auditorio estaba cubierto de corcho recubierto de terciopelo. El cine se inauguró con 1.864 asientos. El magnífico auditorio, de estilo Art Decó, presenta un techo escalonado que cuenta con focos de retroiluminación. La pantalla de cine es enorme y el sonido envolvente es excelente. Al igual que el edificio fue aclamado cuando se construyó por ser tan moderno, el diseño de los cines sigue pareciendo futurista y de vanguardia hoy en día. El Cine Capitol siempre ha sido uno de los principales palacios de cine de Madrid, donde se proyectan las últimas películas.
