The Circo de Marte Theater is the result of the transformation suffered by the building, which had been conceived to be dedicated basically to cockfights, whose primitive construction presented a Frenchified architectural typology of the end of the last century, also inheriting its name of “Circus”.
The building we can see today is the result of building around the perimeter of the previous building, masking and incorporating the primitive prismatic volume of the circus into the new building.
The transformation of the building for the new scenic use consisted in the erection of a perimeter wall that tried to achieve a parallelepiped volume as the image of the new theater and that would serve as support for the horizontal structures. Thus, the partial result was to consist of the use of the interior space of the circus as the volume of the auditorium and the creation of a ring around it that contained all the services and dependencies of the new use for which the building was intended.

The author of the play and professor at the Municipal Theater School, Carlos De León, also present at the event, pointed out that “this is not the first production that this team has done, but it is the first one under the name of La Sastrería Teatro”. In addition, Carlos De León and his team hope that this show will not remain only in the three performances scheduled for this weekend, but that “we can move it all over the islands”.
