They have two wineries and in the visits they show you both, the classic one with the barrels buried under the hillside of the castle and the spectacular work of the renowned architect Richard Rogers, I recommend going up to the castle and admire its grape cluster shape. Undoubtedly the stars are the wines, we tasted two with the advice of the staff and learned a little more about this world.
This long weekend we visited the wineries and then tasted two of their wines, of different appellation of origin. A total of almost 2 hours, in which our guide (special mention to Mario, the guy knows what he’s talking about…) took us through different rooms and explained perfectly the winemaking process. My first experience in this world, undoubtedly outstanding.
Disappointing experience. We booked for the visit and arrived 7 minutes late and they wouldn’t let us in, there were padlocks on the door. We phoned and they were very rude. We have visited many wineries in 2 days and everything has been perfect, without a doubt Protos is the worst.

La bodega Protos, en la Ribera del Duero, se encuentra en una encrucijada constante. Tanto en su filosofía como en su arquitectura, la legendaria bodega se encuentra a caballo entre lo viejo y lo nuevo, utilizando y respetando el pasado pero también abrazando todo lo moderno y lo nuevo. Es una especie de “elige tu propia aventura” en forma de bodega: Si se sigue por este pasillo, se pueden ver kilómetros de bodegas antiguas. Si se sigue por otro pasillo, se puede disfrutar de una arquitectura moderna y de la tecnología más avanzada. Es el pedigrí vinícola de la vieja escuela con una sensibilidad moderna y mucho orgullo.
“Muchos de nuestros visitantes tienen una imagen de Protos clásica y muy tradicional”, dice Fernando Villalba, Director de Comunicación de Protos, durante un reciente viaje a la bodega. “Aceptamos y asumimos que somos una bodega con mucha historia en la Ribera del Duero, pero también trabajamos muy duro para evolucionar e invertir para que la gente vea que no somos una bodega anclada en el pasado. Somos una bodega con mucha historia y trabajamos duro para tener un futuro tan grande como nuestra historia. Así que para nosotros es fundamental que los visitantes puedan venir y puedan ver de primera mano el proceso de elaboración del vino… y toda la historia de la bodega, y al mismo tiempo, toda la vanguardia que hay en este precioso edificio.”
Bodegas arzuaga
El hotel tiene habitaciones muy bonitas, una atractiva piscina, una magnífica vista del castillo y no es muy caro. También dispone de una zona de masajes donde poder relajarse después de un duro día de paseos y visitas.
La oscuridad y el río que lo rodean, hacen del lugar algo misterioso y encantador. Hay que atravesar un túnel oscuro, con luces indirectas. Luego llegamos y podemos ver que el restaurante está hecho con gusto, muy especial. La comida y el servicio también son buenos.
Nos recibieron en una pequeña sala. Éramos un grupo bastante grande, unas 30 personas. Proyectaron un video en el que pudimos ver la historia de Protos y cómo ha evolucionado a lo largo del tiempo. La guía era una mujer atractiva y profesional.
El comienzo de la visita viene caminando por lo que fue la antigua bodega. Está en perfecto estado para ser utilizada en este momento aunque cuesta creer que estas instalaciones se sigan utilizando por los costes de manipulación que conllevan.
Visitamos la zona de llenado y fermentadores. Para pasar a la nueva zona de barricas, hay un paso en el que, por una original solución han dividido el amplio pasillo en una zona para peatones y otra para camiones Fenwick.
