Tickets for 2019 sold out the day they were released (Jan. 4), but there might still be some passes available in the Palm Springs area with pass-plus-lodging packages. If you were lucky enough to get tickets, visit the Coachella site to reserve spots to camp on-site, have VIP dinners or even camp in the luxurious Safari Tents.
If you don’t manage to get tickets but want to get into the festival atmosphere, there are plenty of events throughout the Greater Palm Springs area during both Coachella weekends. Visit Palm Springs, which has a roster of events (from camel rides to architecture exhibits) in April outside of the festival, including legendary pool parties with DJs, themed brunches, and other activities hosted by the Saguaro Resort and Spa Palm Springs and the trendy AceHotel & Swim Club.

The 2005 event ran April 30-May 1 and featured Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails as headliners, along with a Bauhaus reunion and was Tool’s first U.S. performance since 2002. Other acts among the eighties scheduled to perform included New Wavers Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party, rockers My Morning Jacket, disco’s Scissor Sisters and Brooklyn indies Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio. Quieter artists included Cat Power and Icelandic ambient Sigur Ros. Common, Atmosphere, Lady Sovereign, along with DJs Danger Mouse and Paul Oakenfold. And the younger generation of reggae is represented by Damian Marley and Hasidic Rasta Matisyahu.
The 2006 event featured artists such as Depeche Mode and Tool. Two of the most popular performances were Madonna, who played to an overflowing dance tent, and Daft Punk, whose pyramid stage show is cited as one of the most memorable performances in Coachella history. About 120,000 concertgoers attended the two-day event, netting Goldenvoice $9 million.

If we dig a little further back in time, the origins of the festival date back to a 1993 concert held by Pearl Jam at the Empire Polo Club as a boycott of Ticketmaster, as they considered the processing fees they added to each ticket they sold to be ridiculously high.
An interesting fact that you may not know about the place is that despite being located in the desert, you can be sure that you are going to rave, but not exactly because of its climate, as it is not even close to what you imagine when you think of a desert.
The Coachella Festival takes place over two weekends in April, Friday through Sunday. In 2018, the first weekend ran Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 15. The second weekend took place 7 days later, between Friday, April 20 and Sunday, April 22.
Coachella Festival was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999. The two ran the festival until Van Santen’s death in 2004. Since then, Paul Tollett has held the reins of Coachella.
