– Partly cleared the horizon of the Pandemic, the Victoria Theater offers longer plays. This has been the case of Cyrano de Bergerac with 90 minutes of direction, and the upcoming June 3 premiere of Yerma, which maintains the usual format of 60 minutes.

This scenic challenge has consisted in adapting and versioning to 35 minutes, this treasure of verse and prose. Whose center are the feelings expressed by each of the characters, who submerged in dark passions and snatched by life and death make this tragedy a timeless mirror where the most basic passions of the human being are reflected.

In this journey they want to add the rural drama “Yerma”, where the master Lorca portrays with great poetic beauty the role of the woman who wants to be a mother, in a closed and traditional society. On this occasion, Paloma Mejía, in a very personal version of this tragic poem, uses Lorca’s symbology to amplify the emotions and psychology of each of the characters.

Bernarda, as Soleá, Poncia, as Soleá por Bulerías, Angustias, as Alegrías, Magdalena, as a Saeta, Amelia, as Tientos, Martirio, as a Taranto, Adela, as a Seguriya.  Each woman is a flamenco palo that embodies the most intimate feelings and thoughts of each one.

Tello has wanted to make these issues more plastic through flamenco and of course through the voice of the characters, with the intention of delving deeper into all this and to be able to perceive it without questioning it. A vision rooted, energetic and temperamental; a reflection sought and agreed by the artist with the words of Federico García Lorca.
