The artistic group, which was formed on May 14, 1980, made its first professional performance in Zaragoza, after a cultural programmer of the City Council detected their talent in a street performance in Sitges and offered them a contract to represent their play “Cubana’s Delikatessen”.

It will be the second time that La Cubana will perform this play in Zaragoza, after they completed 14 performances in January 2019 at the Teatro Principal, which hung the sold-out sign every day.

For four decades, they have continuously come to the Aragonese capital to perform plays, street shows and popular festivities in events as important as the Fiestas del Pilar or the International Water Exhibition of 2008.

Performances such as the intervention of several shop windows in Alfonso Street, a balloon inflation contest in the Plaza del Pilar or the sale of stones in the Central Market will remain in the memory.

The event, which took place on November 2 at Zaragoza’s Teatro Principal, the most important theater in that city, paid a clear tribute to the classical, romantic and contemporary styles, under the title Las dos orillas, for bringing together dance figures working on both sides of the Atlantic.

For their part, Italians Martina Arduino and Marco Agostino, both from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, chose to showcase their skills in Sylvia, in a version by Manuel Legris, and La esclava y el mercader, one of the pas de deux from El corsario, choreographed by American Anna Marie Holmes, whose complete staging toured the world in a lavish DVD starring the American Ballet Theatre at the beginning of the 21st century.

Although it is no longer necessary to get married religiously, it is clear that when we do it by civil ceremony we continue to use the same structure and pomp as always: a script and a staging that everyone knows perfectly, and the role they have to play. Regardless of race, religion, money, political affiliation or sex of the bride and groom: We all end up playing with great scenic rigor the character that, due to the circumstances, we have to play. Preparing a wedding is exactly the same as preparing a theater show.
