Construido en el emplazamiento del desaparecido convento de las Trinitarias fue diseñado por el arquitecto Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga. Inspirado en la mejor tradición de la arquitectura teatral italiana, la pintura que decora la bóveda del recinto fue obra del artista leonés Demetrio Monteserín y las exquisitas vidrieras que iluminan el vestíbulo son obra de la Casa Maumejean.

Desde agosto de 2015, SOM Produce gestiona el completamente renovado Teatro Calderón. Siendo el primer espectáculo de esta nueva etapa Stomp, seguido de La Gran Ilusión de El Mago pop, el Ilusionista más exitoso de Europa.

El Teatro Calderón cuenta con un gran escenario y un auditorio con un aforo de 1.000 personas, sala de ensayos y cafetería. El edificio ofrece todas las opciones de accesibilidad con rampas para discapacitados que garantizan todos los accesos. Su excepcional dotación técnica permite realizar producciones de gran calidad y complejidad.
